As children get older, it gets harder to come up with birthday party themes that they would enjoy. Consider some of these teen birthday party ideas or put a custom spin on one to make it even more special.

Laser Tag Party

Laser tag party packages are well organized and usually provide games and a party room for a reasonable price. They’re fast paced, with children running and shooting each other everywhere, along with employees yelling instructions into the loud speaker in between blasts of music. Children and adults seem to love laser tag parties, and it’s a perfect party idea for energetic types.

One of the nicest things about having a birthday party at a laser tag arena is that they take care of the mess. It’s not nearly as brutal or messy as paintball either, which is another bonus. There are also mobile outdoor laser tag companies that will come to any location. This is fun in the summer because water games work well along with the lasers.

Movie & Pizza Party

A movie and pizza birthday party is a good choice for a group of close teenage friends who just want to hang out together at home. Consider playing music and socializing for the first half hour to break the ice. This also provides an opportunity to take a vote on what movie the teens will watch. Keep it narrowed down to two so that there aren’t many to choose from.

Glow in the Dark Party

A glow in the dark party would be perfect for Halloween, but it’s also fun for a teenager’s birthday. Provide glow in the dark sticks, necklaces or reflectors for each birthday party guest and purchase black lights so that everyone glows. There is also glow in the dark candles that would add a nice ambiance to this teen party theme.

Camping Sleepover

Consider renting a campsite for a teen camping sleepover party. Pitch a tent and roast marshmallows on the fire. There’s usually a lake, so other activities could be swimming and/or renting a boat. If that’s not possible, backyard camp outs can be just as much fun. Enjoy an outdoor movie and provide snacks, flashlights and supervision for teens. This one obviously wouldn’t work as a coed teenager party.

Horseback Riding Party

Make the horseback riding party a western theme for teenagers to have even more fun. Wear bandanas, long pants and don’t forget the sun block! Ranches have birthday party packages complete with a party room and an instructor to help give horseback riding lessons. Rates can go anywhere from 20 to 50 dollars an hour, depending on the farm and what’s included in the package. Horseback riding parties are huge hits and teen party guests will talk about them for a long time.

When there’s a theme and a plan for teen parties, it gives everyone something to look forward to. Make sure the invitations spell out all the details including what the guests might need to bring. Birthday party guests don’t have to worry about being bored when they know about the party activities ahead of time.
